From Our Classroom to the Community: The Final Splash before our first official day

August 18th, 2025

Last week in our classroom: PICNIC THEME🧺🍓🍋

Sensory table: our sensory table changes on a bi-weekly basis, so it still has zoo items!

  • filler (rice)

  • small manipulative (Dollar Tree zoo confetti)

  • Learning Resources tongs

  • Cups for scooping

Activities:

  • Watermelon roll painting — because is it even simmer as kid if you don’t smash a watermelon open & devour it with friends

  • Paper ripping, grass & ants craft — tear green paper for grass and add crawling ants

  • Sponge picnic painting — use sponges to stamp picnic blanket patterns

  • Make-your-own snack necklace — thread pretzels, cereal, and other tasty treats for a wearable snack.

For all things PICNIC to do this at home/your preschool - check out our Amazon List.

A Tip from Your Preschool Teacher!

Do you ever pick up your preschooler and feel like you get zero details about their day?

Instead of the usual “How was your day?” (and getting “good” or “fine” in return), try switching it up with simple prompts that spark real conversation.

We put together a free resource with 5 easy things you can say at pickup to help your child feel safe, loved, and excited to share.

Download your free prompt list below by subscribing to our blog and make pickup the sweetest part of your day!

To this week from our partners: splashing surprises

While we’re gearing up to kick off our September partnership content, the past two weeks we gave you a peek inside with our Playschool tour and our daily flow. To wrap things up, we want to share the importance of special activities at Playschool!

Last week I shared how a consistent routine helps children feel safe, confident, and ready to learn — but just as important are those extra-special moments. What better place to practice big feelings like excitement than in a familiar environment, surrounded by your closest friends?

This summer, our weekly “special” was Water Day — always a favorite! But special activities can take so many forms, especially for preschoolers:

Birthday Celebrations – The birthday child gets to wear a fun birthday hat and glasses, choose a toy bin, bring a special snack, and soon we’ll be adding streamers to their doorway entrance!
Family Events – Donuts with Dad, Muffins with Mom… children love showing off their Playschool world with the people they love most.
Holiday Traditions – From Gingerbread & Giggles to Our Little Sweethearts, these little celebrations create big memories.

These moments aren’t just fun — they’re meaningful. They help children practice how to navigate new experiences, celebrate milestones, and share joy with others. So when they go to a birthday party, a holiday gathering, or a big family event outside of Playschool, they’re already confident and prepared.
