From Our Classroom to the Community: The Extended Family Launch
September 15th, 2025
Last week in our classroom: All about me!
Sensory table: next week changes our sensory table theme - this was our last week with all about me (family edition)
filler (colored pom poms)
small manipulative (Learning Resources Houses and family people)
various tongs for squeezing
Activities: (this week was shorter as my daughter had surgery)
Sticky Note Scavenger Hunt: This was a HUGE hit! I wrote each child’s first letter on the whiteboard, then hid matching sticky notes around the room (color-coordinated). The kids loved searching for their letters, taking turns, and cheering their friends on.
Play Dough Potato Heads: What better way to practice body parts than through sensory play? We rolled play dough balls for the “potatoes” and used Mr. Potato Head pieces to build silly creations while naming each body part.
Name Coloring Pages: Each child had their own name sheet with bubble letters—“M is for ___,” “W is for ___”—and got to color them in. The older kids added an extra challenge: “I can dot the first letter of my name” using stickers for letter recognition practice.
To this week from our partners: The Extended Playschool Family Launch
After our event at Brookdale Senior Living, I started hearing from families and community members that they’d love to see more opportunities like this. That got me thinking—what a great way to keep growing the Playschool community!
I began reaching out to partners, and I created something new: the Extended Playschool Family. The idea is simple—events will first be shared with Playschool families, and then opened up to the greater Kalamazoo community.
If you’re not already part of the Extended Playschool Family, you can request to join on Facebook. Stay tuned for upcoming opportunities, like the Mama Bear Mini Session with Mindset Physical Therapy (plus a few surprise freebies I have in the works!).
This week’s topic with Antoniotti Chiropractic is all things sleep related! The science behind: 3 Reasons why Chiropractic Care Helps with Ear Infections
